you are right. while i am bored of the gameboy, it’s not specifically game boy fatigue. it’s scene fatigue. i’m tired of the scene.

i’ve decided i’m done. making chiptunes has taught me a lot about making electronic music and a lot about sound manipulation. something that’s carrying on to all my future musical endeavours. i mean, i never would’ve got into renoise if it weren’t for chiptune and renoise is my main tool now.
and the chiptune scene has taught me a lot about…[Read more]

yea i used to feel that way too. until the chiptune scene became flooded with gameboy repeats. i just need variety and get bored when things appear to repeat themselves on loop.

i like to always push boundaries with everything i do. but it comes easy to me because i don’t really see or look for boundaries when i do it. i just do it the way i do it and i don’t give a shit whether it is right or wrong or whether it is acceptable by a mass group of retards or whatever. i do what i do. with the punk mantra, ‘like it, or…[Read more]

the ratio between new gameboy music and new other 8-bit device music is too out of balance these days. too much of anything is never a good thing. in fact, it starts to take away and lose it’s affect after awhile. i dunno maybe i’m just in a weird position cuz i never really listened to chiptunes for nostalgia purposes. there isn’t much…[Read more]

sometimes yes. but i only think that happens when people don’t work on developing interesting sound design on their devices. otherwise, it doesn’t have to be typical at all. i feel like things have gotten a bit stale lately though. too much of the same thing. i think it’s because most of the new-ish chiptune artists haven’t really moved passed…[Read more]

Just thinking about possibly trying to get a compilation album together of music by chiptune artists who DON’T play video games. I think it would be an odd and interesting twist from the norm.

i think you’ll find a lot of us don’t play video games

You mean you never played video games, or you don’t play them now but used to?

i’ve played them a little bit here and there, i’ve just never really been into them. i’ve always been more interested in watching the graphics and hearing the audio. that’s why retro games are so great. modern games are so boring when it comes to audio/visual components. i don’t really like games in general, for the most part anyway. i’d…[Read more]

I know what you mean. I quite playing video games once N64 was obsolete. Gamecube, PS2, and Xbox never really did it for me.

the gameboy is… done.
ive decided to temporarily put down the gameboy..and move on to the microkorg. lawl.
hmmm. i never really was able to get into microkorg music.
Chiptune artists must combine chiptune with different instruments or vocals. It’s only way to make real great music.
Just a chiptune usually have a boring and typical sound.

Game Boy gained popular because it portable, have a great sound and easy to buy. With Game Boy we can make show without any problems. This is all we need!
But yeah, you said right. New GBtune artists too lazy to find new sound.
I’m one of them.
The only solution what i find is just combine chiptune (GBtune). If it’ll stay typical, it’s not…[Read more]

It’s not laziness, it’s preference and ease of access to other means of making sound. Not everyone has the time to learn goattracker, or Famitracker, or Deflemask, or learn how to use Ableton or a SID chip. If you don’t have time, that’s cool.
We have still barely scratched the surface of sounds the Gameboy can make with LSDJ. Stuff like mGB…[Read more]

I’ve been mixing LSDJ in with my Ableton work, such as this track https://soundcloud.com/maxd-2/mourning-glory
Chip + horns = wild stuff
Everybody jump on the Famitracker bandwagon!
There are a lot of people using Game Boys to make certain genres of dance music. You might not be experiencing Game Boy fatigue, but dubstep/electowhatever fatigue.

I totally appreciate what you’re saying here and I agree and disagree to an extent. Like, this weekend I caught up with Galaxy Wolf on the WWCW stream and his sound on the gameboy is unlike anything else you’ll here. He’s the sort of guy who doesn’t download 20 current chiptune albums onto his phone and you can really hear it in his sound. It…[Read more]

Call me crazy, but uh…
Some of us use the Gameboy because we like the sound.

Fair ’nuff!
I make stuff with VGMM, Famitracker, and Beepola. Genesis, Nintendo, Spectrum. I’ve hardly touched Gameboy at all aside from perhaps some goofs with nanoloop
. I’m probably a minority eh? Who wants to learn VGMM?
I can help!
Half of the time i use Monotribe with my VL Tone using the pre-set effects on my mixer for the vl….fun fun!
