I agree. I had an inkling that the downtime was just a way to force people to pay for the site, but it wasn’t until Freque brought it up that I found out that’s what was happening.

This thread http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/5518/why-is-8bc-down/ suggests it’s actually pretty serious this time. I’ve donated twice this year and have no plans to do so again, but it would be a shame to lose such a vast, storied archive of chip music.
In regards to this site getting more traffic, I encourage everyone to try and comment on new members’ tracks to promote a positive vibe. I’m going to do just that later. Or tomorrow morning. After I unpack and decompress…

8bc is back up, at least for another month. Jose said on the 8bc Facebook group that he and the admins are in the process of making some sort of donations page to get more people to donate.

I don’t think the site owners gave a shit about the site when I was mod back in ’08 & ’09. Real shame about losing so much great music, early Anamanaguchi, overthruster, x|k, she

the music is the real victim in all of this & especially those artists who uploaded tracks and have since lost them.
Now they cant even download their own shit from 8bc…
poor guys/gals/robots.

Yeah. I’m kicking myself now for not downloading ALL of my liked tracks.
Like Jellica said, early Anamanaguchi–the rougher tracks had a real charm. The early version of Flora/Fauna is still one of my favorites of theirs (I do have that one, at least).
