Hey noichanners, so here’s my request. I want to be able to use some guitar pedal effects on stage and as part of my music. However, I need some form of pre-amp. In order to keep my gear light and the output volume high, throw me your suggestions or experience. I’m considering 1.) A mod in the gameboy, but I plan to use a few for differing reasons. What is your experience of it. Has someone a cheap mod kit that is easy to install. What’s your own experience on this? 2.) A nice outboard preamp with a limiter and compressor. As small as they can get. Go noichan! Brainstormiate! The Man, The Myth, The Lust....

Bleak. OK, I’ve found pre-amp parts and pieces and an aluminium shell. Would anybody be interested in such a device if I could make up a small jack to jack pre-amp with a gain knob? For double the cost I’ve found this puppy: So it’s like, hmmmm, do I make my own funky gadget or do I go with a pro product with more features? The Man, The Myth, The Lust....

Yo buddy, I just found the hardware section on noichan and I’m enjoying it a lot. I was just wondering, wouldn’t a prosound mod in to a few pedals be nice and loud, or is the problem that if you turned all the pedals off there’s some kind of drop in signal? |

That’s basically it, the prosound is not massively louder, but cleaner. It just doesn’t have enough grunt to go through guitar pedals. Once amplified, it sounds pretty good, but there’s just not enough input to get any volume out. The Man, The Myth, The Lust....

Jazzmarazz gave me a link a while back to his in-DMG mixer. Once I build it, I will try hooking it up to the prosound input and let you know what’s what. Hopefully we can figure out something. You may also want to look at amplifiers for cell phones that have quiet sounding audio jacks. They tend to be battery operated, the size of an Altoids can at the very largest, and decently priced. Not sure what it would do to the audio signal though besides simply make it louder. |
