I just thought of something. Not a lot of people use VGMM tracker, but I bet maybe if you had a file to look at and could at least add in a melody, tweak some parameters, or had an idea that you can’t finish but you could at least send it to someone else. Maybe together we could get some very interesting results I’m just throwing it out there. You all know I love this tracker and can make some cool stuff with it but I can only go so far. It seems like every time I collaborate with others, we both learn something and I improve too so it’s win win! If anyone out there has some unfinished songs they’d like to send, or you would like to take a look at one of my ideas let me know on this forum or even a PM. Some people have asked if I could do a tutorial or something. I think this is better, you learn by doing. You can look at the program, see what others have done, and then add something to it and pass it. I just need to know if there is any interest at all in this before I start uploading files. So, who’s game? |

I’d like to give it a shot. Is a lot of experience with VGMM needed, or just enough know-how on adding notes and mentioned parameter tweaks? |

Well, I have quite a bit of experience with it and I could start someone off with an idea, and as long as you know how to input notes into a tracker you could probably add to it. Also if someone has a work in progress song I’d like to see if I could help flesh it out. Basically it’s all about gaining more interest for this tracker |

Let me see if I can get this to work. Here’s a VGE file that is a wip of something I am working on. |

Worked just fine! I’ve used famitracker and lsdj before, so the tracker system doesnt fly over my head. My only question is are the instruments assigned in the rows of notes like fami or lsdj? Like if I have an instrument written to 01, I just need to put the 01 beside the instrument? I’m assuming its just like other trackers. I’ll go ahead and sketch out a rough idea in the meantime, then later I can get it into vgmm. |

Yes First one next to the note is for the instrument number, next is the volume column, then the fx which you can have have up to 3 per channel by clicking it at the top to switch which set of parameters you are looking at. The pattern editor is the easy part |

Right. At that point, its just something I’ll have to play around with. I’ll at least get a few melody ideas written out, and get them to you soon (In the two days or so) then we could hammer it out from there to make it sound pretty. The instrument editor is pretty daunting admittedly, but I’m looking forward to messing with it a little. Would there happen to be a list of effects anywhere before I start up? |

I don’t know of an online list off hand, but I can tell you where it is once you open the tracker: Go to: Help, Show Help, Interface, and the second one from the bottom is “Effects List” Before you start anything I would go into the preferences and check out the buffer length. Click the little sound icon. If you hear a solid tone you’re fine…if it’s a bit garbled you’ll have to adjust the buffer length until it sounds good. Another thing you can do in the preferences is take down the main tracker volume as well as adjust the FM/PSG volumes if you need to. There is a slider there that can help you adjust it. I like to slide it all the way to the PSG side, because normally psg is very quiet If you have any other questions let me know. I am really excited to see new people try this tracker out. I hope more people check out this topic. It would be cool to make some kind of VGMM compilation album with all kinds of different artists |

The help item just displays a bunch of pages that says “Navigation to web page was cancelled”, which was actually why I was asking in the first place. I got it off of shinru’s site, but it even with a r-dl, its giving me the same thing. Still, I’ll have a two or three melody ideas up tonight or tomorrow night. |

Quick little post to add what little I got so far. Two melody ideas that both have the same little breakdown. I played with some of the drums and rhythms as well, but nothing really overt. Hope .zip is fine. |

Awesome man, I got your zip file just fine. It looks like you had quite a few different ideas. I’ve also got Groovemaster303 working on it too. So chances are with our combined powers we’ll have something neat going on in no time |

Sounds good, just keep me in the loop. They’re pretty much some rough ideas that would require sound smoothing, but I’ll add in some more later on this week when I’m not as busy and get them to you. |

I like those ideas Mise. I was working on a lead earlier and then Jredd sent me your idea and we combined the two together and with a little tweaking it sounds pretty sweet now. |

For the most part I’d say when Groove and I work together it’s like I am better at tweaking leads, and groove is a bit better at backing stuff and sound design. We work well together http://www.mediafire.com/?v4kwlkx2y3p52d3 If you’d like to check out earlier versions I can send you that too but here’s our latest one just to show you what we’ve been up to. We tend to get on msn and send files back and forth for a few hours and go crazy Ha ha ha. |

It sounds great so far. If its not in the wrapping up stages, I’d still like to work out some more ideas once I’m done with class today. |

Feel free! We have a version with a make shift ending, but we thought to ourselves if you came up with more ideas we could include them in the second go around somehow. We’re always tweaking stuff anyhow, we’re like “Ok, I think we are done, and then the other guy adds something ha ha. So yeah, that would be cool |

I’d like too, and I wanted to make sure there wasn’t a dead line in terms of wrapping up or making the song drone on too long. More so since college is back in swing for me and I didn’t want to drag anything down by not having as much time to allocate to getting some ideas written in. The Genesis sounds very unique but very different since I grew up as a Ninty person, but I plan to keep playing with the instruments and throw in some numbers in the fx column to see what happens. I saw some note slides being used, so now there’s something else to include and abuse. It’s fun stuff, fo’ sho’. EEEEEEEEDIT: Had some free time, so I made a transition phrase/possible ending given how its edited, and a transition-y phrase that flows back to 1L. |

Ah, I had a version 6 It just goes to show, just because someone is new does not mean we can’t learn from each other and make something rad http://www.mediafire.com/?x683vn80435ozyr Again, I hope the link works. I think I’ll turn this one into an mp3 if you’re cool with this being the final version. How would you like to be credited? Is “Mise” fine, or do you want another name going into the mp3 tags? As it stands now it’s a 3 way collaboration between me, you, and Groove. Hopefully we can get some more people interested in this topic. What I’d really like to see is someone else start of a track next and then see how I can add to it It would be neat to get a lot of new people involved and have enough songs to put out a little “VGMM and friends Compilation E.P” or something |

It’s all good. If it can’t work, it can’t work. Otherwise, think its good to go! I wasn’t gonna make a big deal about credits. Mise works as a name if you decide to add me on, though I just kind of tagged along so I could mess with something new, you guys did the arranging and fixing work. I’d still be interested in getting a new track started sometime soon, if either are you are still up for it. |
